Dental Implants

Dental implants can change the lives of patients who are missing a tooth or multiple teeth. They are surgically placed components that support a dental prosthesis like a crown. They also work to support multiple prostheses in a row, such as a dental bridge or dentures.

Dental implants aren’t just simple replacements for missing teeth. They also help prevent bone loss and decay. Implants are designed to replace any tooth roots you have lost in the upper or lower jaws.

Patients who have experienced bone loss due to missing teeth will need to have their jawbones examined. In some cases, bone can be grafted to support dental implants.

Once the graft between the implant and the bone has been made, the likelihood of further bone loss decreases. This occurs because the implant acts as a natural tooth root and helps preserve jaw structure by stimulating the bone.

Dental Implants FAQs

Root Canals
Root canal therapy is recommended if the nerve of your tooth dies and becomes infected. After the root has died, a buildup of bacteria can form around the dead nerve. This is what causes the pain of an infection.
Root canals have long had a bad reputation, but the treatment is neither dangerous nor scary. The negative reputation of root canals is due to the pain that comes long before the actual procedure. Once you’ve undergone root canal therapy, that severe pain won’t be a problem any longer.

Thanks to the experience and technology available here at Dogwood Dental, we can complete most root canal procedures in-office without a referral to a specialist.

Extractions

If you need a tooth extracted, our team at Dogwood Dental will work to get you the care you need with the touch of compassion you deserve. Teeth may need to be extracted for several reasons, including gum disease, tooth or jaw pain, swollen gums, or crowding.
.
These symptoms do not necessarily mean that you have to have a tooth extracted. We will carefully evaluate your mouth to determine whether an extraction is necessary.

Wisdom Teeth

One of the most common forms of tooth extraction is wisdom teeth removal. Wisdom teeth are the four molars at the very back of your mouth.

For the most part, patients don’t need these teeth, which often cause overcrowding in the mouth. This overcrowding can lead to extreme pain as your wisdom teeth push on all the other teeth in your mouth, trying to make room for themselves.

Some people are lucky enough to have room for their wisdom teeth. Others aren’t born with any at all. But the vast majority of people have them. More often than not, these wisdom teeth need to be extracted.

Crowns & Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are commonly used dental prostheses that work in place of an actual tooth.

The crown of your tooth is the upper part that we can see above the gumline. Sometimes the crowns of our teeth get cracked, damaged, or experience decay. A dental crown can be placed over the tooth to protect and preserve it. We use porcelain crowns to create a seamless, natural look that no one will see.

A dental bridge, which is multiple dental crowns placed in a row, can replace missing teeth that have left a sizable gap in your mouth. Bridges can restore your mouth and enable it to function normally. They can be made from a variety of materials, including alloys, gold, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.

Dentures
Dentures are an excellent option for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth. When inserted, they function like normal teeth and allow patients to chew food comfortably and talk with ease.

Dentures are removable plates or frames with replacement teeth that fit in patients’ mouths. These sets of teeth can fully restore a patient’s oral function. We offer both full and partial dentures, depending on your needs.
